Stuart Lancaster is a rugby union coach who has coached at the highest standard. He is most recognised for being the head coach of England between 2011-2015. As a player, Lancaster played for Wakefield and Leeds Tykes, he enjoyed an 11-year career before being forced to retire at the age of 30. He represented Scotland at youth level and performed extremely well throughout his time for the side. During his time at Leeds Tykes, he became the first player to reach a century of games for the club.
After retiring in 2000, Lancaster became a coach and ran the Leeds Tykes Academy. His work with the academy side was so influential that he was offered a head coach role with the Leeds Tykes. In his debut season as head coach, Lancaster led the club back to the Premiership as the Tykes won the league with a mammoth 122 points.
Lancaster’s work as head coach of Leeds Tykes was widely recognised which led to him becoming the Elite Rugby Director; throughout his time in the role he had to develop the younger players, this saw him become coach of the England Saxons between 2008-2011. He led the Saxons squad to a number of victories and tournament titles, including the Churchill Cup.
His great work for the Saxons side led to being offered the head coach role for England’s senior side. Lancaster took this role on and started sensationally, he was deemed the reason for England’s reformation; he demanded the players stood up as role models and excluded players from various squads if they weren’t prepared to do so. Lancaster was the head coach for England until just after the 2015 World Cup, he was then appointed by Leinster as a senior coach; Lancaster continues in his role with Leinster and was hailed as an inspirational coach by the players following their win in the 2018 Champions Cup final.
